Marc Anthony Honored with Hollywood Walk of Fame Star: A Celebration of His Legendary Career

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was unveiled Thursday to honor Marc Anthony, the top-selling tropical salsa artist. With over 50 Billboard No. 1 hits, four Grammys, and nine Latin Grammys, his recording career has been nothing short of extraordinary.

During the ceremony held near the W Hollywood Hotel on 6284 Hollywood Blvd, Anthony expressed his gratitude to his family, friends, and loved ones who shaped him into the artist he is today. He humbly acknowledged the overwhelming feeling of being recognized in such a manner.

The ceremony took place just nine days ahead of Anthony’s 55th birthday and featured speeches from his long-time friend, soccer legend David Beckham.

Anthony’s star is the 2,762nd addition to the Walk of Fame, which first began in 1961 with 1,558 stars.

Born on September 16, 1968, in New York City, Anthony began his musical journey as a session vocalist for freestyle music and underground New York house music groups.

He released his debut studio album, “When the Night is Over,” in collaboration with DJ and record producer Little Louie Vega in 1991.

In 1993, Anthony’s third studio album, “Todo a Su Tiempo,” achieved gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling at least 500,000 copies. His subsequent 11 studio albums, except one, were also certified gold, with six meeting the standards for Latin albums.

Anthony’s first Grammy nomination came in 1996 for best tropical Latin performance, but he lost to Gloria Estefan. He eventually won the award in 1999 for “Contra La Corriente.” He also received nominations in the best male pop vocal performance category in 2000 and 2001, both times losing to Sting.

In 2003, Anthony was nominated for best salsa album but lost to Celia Cruz. He won the Grammy for best Latin pop album in 2005 and has been nominated in various categories throughout the years. In 2020, he secured victories for best tropical Latin album with “Opus” and “Pa’llá Voy” in February.
