“This Is Us” star Mandy Moore revealed that she received just “a penny” in residuals for her work on the popular show.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter during the strike at the Disney lot, Moore, who was previously Emmy-nominated for her leading role, expressed that actors can no longer sustain themselves solely from residuals.
While “This Is Us” is streamed on platforms like Hulu, Moore stated that she has only received “very tiny, like 81-cent checks.”
Moore shared, “I was talking with my business manager who said he’s received a residual for a penny and two pennies.” She continued, “The residual issue is a significant problem. Although we have been fortunate in our roles on successful shows, many actors before us relied on residuals to pay their bills.”

Katie Lowes, known for her role in “Scandal,” also joined the strike and revealed that she hasn’t received substantial residuals from the show’s streaming agreements with Netflix and Hulu.
“In previous years, if you were lucky enough to be part of a successful show with over 120 episodes, the re-airing of that show could sustain you during periods where you pursued smaller projects, did a play, or had family expenses,” Lowes explained. “However, that is no longer the reality. The entire model has changed.”
Many other Hollywood actors have spoken out against the residuals system amidst the SAG-AFTRA strike, including Kimiko Glenn from “Orange Is the New Black” who shared a TikTok video demonstrating the minuscule residuals she received for appearing in 44 episodes of the show. The total amount was just $27.37.
Kamil McFadden, a lead actor on Disney Channel’s “K.C. Undercover,” also tweeted a video showing that he earned negative figures in residuals for certain episodes of the hit show. He expressed his disbelief, “Wanna see something crazy? Y’all ever seen negative amounts on your residuals? The full video is almost two minutes long and I’m only netting $2.77. The math ain’t mathing.”
