When asked if he would consider switching to independent, especially since he is up for re-election next year, Manchin responded, “Absolutely.” He added, “I have been seriously considering it for quite some time. I have not made any decisions regarding my political direction. I want to ensure that my voice truly represents an independent perspective, acknowledging the positive contributions from both Republicans and Democrats.” The New York Times reports that both Manchin and Sinema face challenging re-election battles in the coming year.
