Manchin Leaves Door Open for Third-Party 2024 Bid at No Labels Event

At a recent event for the No Labels nonprofit in New Hampshire, Joe Manchin made a statement that is fueling speculation about his potential candidacy in the 2024 presidential race. No Labels, which is causing concern among Democrats who fear it could benefit Donald Trump, is considering running a third-party candidate and aiming to qualify for the ballot in every state. However, former North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory, a national co-chair for the group, referred to these efforts as an “insurance policy” in case the status quo is maintained, according to CNN. The primary goal of No Labels is to influence the agenda of politicians visiting New Hampshire during the primary season.

Despite this, Manchin, who is up for re-election for his Senate seat in West Virginia in 2024, did not rule out the possibility of running as a hypothetical No Labels candidate. However, he emphasized that he would not enter the presidential race as a spoiler, stating, “I’ve never been in any race I’ve ever spoiled. I’ve been in races to win. And if I get in a race, I’m going to win.” At the same event, former Utah governor Jon Huntsman joined Manchin in criticizing the divisive nature of Washington politics. While media outlets speculated about the possibility of a bipartisan unity ticket with Manchin and Huntsman, both individuals dismissed these claims as premature, according to NBC News.
