A resident from Westlake Village has been sentenced to 15 1/2 years in federal prison for his involvement in a drug ring responsible for distributing heroin to a young individual who tragically died from an overdose. Bradford Shepley, aged 38, will also have to serve six years of supervised release subsequent to his incarceration, as ordered by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Shepley had pleaded guilty in May to a federal offense of conspiring to possess heroin with the intent to distribute. Court documents from Los Angeles federal court showed that prosecutors suggested a maximum sentence of 15 1/2 years, taking into account Shepley’s previous conviction for a serious drug-related offense.
Shepley played a part in procuring the heroin which was then distributed to customers by two other individuals.
A series of text messages exchanged on or around November 4, 2017, between a co-conspirator and a customer known as K.S. utilized coded language to arrange a heroin pickup. The day after, Shepley provided the co-conspirator with heroin to sell to K.S., according to the prosecution.
A third member of the ring drove Shepley and his accomplice to the parking lot of a Target store in Westlake Village for the transaction with K.S., which was recorded by the store’s security cameras, as mentioned in court documents.
Upon the successful sale of the heroin to K.S., the money exchanged hands with Shepley, as declared in his plea agreement.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that K.S. consumed the heroin supplied by Shepley and ultimately succumbed to an overdose in his bedroom at his parents’ residence. The medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was heroin intoxication.
Court records containing information about the co-conspirators have been sealed and are not accessible to the public.
