A 28-year-old man has pleaded guilty to engaging in unlawful intercourse with a minor in Lake Elsinore. As part of a plea agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Thomas Joseph Hernandez admitted to the charge and was sentenced to two years of felony probation. Two related felony counts were dropped as part of the agreement.
During the hearing at the Southwest Justice Center, Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Zimel certified the terms of the plea deal and imposed the agreed-upon sentence. In addition to probation, Hernandez has been ordered to participate in a six-month sheriff’s work release program, during which he must be gainfully employed or enrolled in vocational training or school.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Reese, the investigation into the case began when unspecified individuals alerted authorities to the alleged encounters between Hernandez and the underage victim, known in court documents as “E.S.” in early May 2022. Sufficient evidence was gathered to obtain an arrest warrant, leading to Hernandez’s detaining on May 12 at his residence on Westlynn Drive.
The specifics of how Hernandez and the victim met were not disclosed.
Prior to this case, Hernandez did not have any previous felony convictions in Riverside County.
