Majority control of Bacolod goes to Razon in BIZ BUZZ

In the constant effort to improve local power and water utilities and generate a reasonable profit, large business conglomerates often face opposition from entrenched interests. This is the case for Enrique Razon Jr., who is facing resistance in his firm’s joint venture agreement with Bacolod City’s power distribution utility, Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco). The deal has been met with opposition from individuals who invaded Ceneco’s offices. However, the deal’s proponents conducted a two-day plebiscite among Ceneco customers, and the results showed that 78% of the customers who cast their votes were in favor of the joint venture. This means that a “supermajority” of Bacolod City residents support Primelectric Holdings Inc. and Ceneco’s plans. Despite this, critics are still preparing for another battle, but the Ceneco-Razon partnership now has a stronger position with the support of the majority of customers.
