A luxury yacht manufacturer, renowned for its vessels featured in multiple James Bond movies, is predicting a return to profitability as a result of a surge in orders from ultra-wealthy clients.
Sunseeker reported a 26% increase in sales, reaching £268 million, leading to a significant reduction in losses from £21.2 million to £1.9 million compared to the previous year.
In 2013, the company was acquired by Dalian Wanda, a Chinese conglomerate, for a total of £300 million. Dalian Wanda, owned by Wang Jianlin, formerly China’s wealthiest individual, has diversified interests encompassing construction, property, and films. It holds shares in Legendary Entertainment, the producer of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
In its latest financial report, Sunseeker stated: “2022 has marked a remarkable year of improvement, with record-breaking levels of future orders, a rebound in gross margins, and steady turnover growth.
“We anticipate further enhancements to profitability in 2023 and 2024, driven by an increase in boat sales revenue.”
This year, Sunseeker unveiled its Superhawk 55 and 75 Sport Yacht at the Dusseldorf Boat Show, resulting in additional sales. The company aims to expand its production and offer over 20 different models.
In the previous year, Sunseeker struggled with narrowed profit margins due to import disruptions caused by Brexit.
