Love Island Star Asserts That Hotel Guests Should Be Spared From Paying a ‘Fake Tan Surcharge’ in GMB Discussion

Should Guests Be Charged for Staining Hotel Sheets? Love Island Star Weighs In

Love Island contestant Liberty Poole believes that hotel guests who stain sheets with fake tan should not be charged extra. The reality star expressed this opinion during her appearance on GMB, a TV show hosted by Ed Balls and Susanna Reid. Former TOWIE star Harry Derbidge, however, argued that people should treat hotels with respect.

Their debate was prompted by the news that the hotel industry incurs a cost of nearly £1.8 million per year due to stains from fake tan and heavy makeup on bedding and towels. Research suggests that approximately 224 tons of linens are thrown away annually after being soiled by these products.

Liberty Poole believes that charging guests for stained sheets detracts from the overall service value of a hotel. She suggested that hotels could provide sheet covers for guests who use fake tan as an alternative solution.

Harry Derbidge emphasized the importance of respecting hotel property, stating that budget-friendly hotels should not have to deal with the mess caused by guests. However, he acknowledged that luxury hotels charging high prices may warrant a different approach to handling stained bedding.

Linen cleaner Regenex, which conducted the research, mentioned that fake tan and makeup stains are the most challenging for hotels to remove. The company believes that imposing charges on guests may be necessary to recoup losses.

Love Island's Liberty Poole (pictured on GMB today) argued that hotel guests should not have to pay extra if they get fake tan or heavy make-up on sheets
