Miller Fong, now 82 years old, established his architectural practice after graduating from USC in 1964. He later became the principal designer for Fong Brothers Co., a prestigious firm founded by his Chinese immigrant parents in 1953.
If you visited the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s “California Design, 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way” exhibition several years ago, you might recall Fong’s iconic wicker Lotus chair. Designed in 1968 and part of the Lotus Collection manufactured by his family’s company, this curvy masterpiece is now a part of the permanent collection at LACMA. Additionally, several other designs from the Fong Brothers Company are proudly exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
As an expert in his field, Fong is also an adjunct professor at the USC School of Architecture.
