Aug. 25 (UPI) — A Washington postal worker’s brave act of rescuing a trapped kitten has become the catalyst behind his incredible stroke of luck, resulting in a life-changing lottery jackpot worth $717,500.

Joseph Waldherr, a devoted postal worker from Tacoma, recounted to Washington’s Lottery officials how he heard the faint cries of a distressed kitten while making his rounds, but struggled to locate its source.

Determined to help the helpless animal, Waldherr returned to the same area the following day and, to his relief, found the tiny feline wedged into a tight spot.

“He gently placed the kitten in the pocket of his sweatshirt, where it found comfort and slept for the remainder of his shift,” Washington’s Lottery stated in a press release.

Filled with a sense of good fortune from his successful rescue mission, Waldherr decided to test his luck further and stopped by the Quinto convenience store, where he purchased a Hit 5 lottery ticket.

A few days later, Waldherr and his wife checked the ticket together and were stunned to discover that they had won an incredible $717,500 jackpot.

Waldherr wholeheartedly believes that his newfound wealth is directly connected to the fortunate encounter with the kitten. In a heartwarming turn of events, he has since adopted the kitten, now named Peaches, and given it a loving home.

The generous winner intends to use a portion of his prize money to support his parents’ retirement and donate to various charities.

“My wife and I have all that we need. Our primary aim now is to make a positive impact on the lives of others,” Waldherr expressed.
