Los Angeles police identified a suspect linked to the killings of three homeless men earlier this week. The suspect, Jerrid Joseph Powell, 33, was already in custody after being arrested for killing a county employee a few days earlier. Police Chief Michel Moore mentioned that police used security video to match Powell’s car to the vehicle spotted in the killing that led to the arrest.
While Powell was arrested in Beverly Hills on charges of murder and robbery, police believed he was responsible for all three deaths. The brutal murders took place in different areas of Los Angeles. All the victims, all males, were shot while sleeping.
Some city officials opened emergency shelters to protect the homeless from similar attacks. Powell is not yet charged, and authorities are asking anyone with information about new crimes that Powell may have committed to step forward.
