In a striking trend, yet another bus transporting migrants from Texas has arrived in Los Angeles on Wednesday. This marks the 11th arrival since June 14, as reported by the L.A. Welcomes Collective and the mayor’s office.
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, a member of the collective, has confirmed the arrival of the bus carrying 35 asylum seekers from various countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Russia, and Venezuela. CHIRLA, being a part of the collective comprising nonprofit organizations, faith groups, and city and county services, works together to address the arrival of migrant buses.
The bus arrived at approximately 10:50 a.m., bringing along 21 adults and 14 children aged between 2 and 17.
“In Los Angeles, 35 asylum seekers, sent from Brownsville, Texas, on Wednesday, were treated with compassion and respect as they embark on their journey to settle in our community,” CHIRLA posted on X (Twitter’s former name). “The L.A. Welcomes Collective extends its gratitude to the city, county, and community partners in L.A. for their support.”
Zach Seidl, a spokesperson for Mayor Karen Bass, has verified the latest arrival with a statement.
“The city, along with city departments, the county, nonprofit organizations, and our faith partners, has been working together to implement the plan established earlier this year,” said Seidl. “Upon learning about the arrival of the bus yesterday, we promptly executed our plan.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been organizing these trips, citing that the border region in Texas is “overwhelmed” by immigrants crossing from Mexico.
“Texas’ small border towns continue to grapple with an overwhelming and increasing influx of people illegally crossing into Texas from Mexico due to President Biden’s failure to secure the border,” Abbott stated in response to the first bus’s arrival in Los Angeles back in June. “Los Angeles, being a major city, attracts many migrants, especially now that its city leaders have declared it a sanctuary city. Our border communities are bearing the brunt of President Biden’s border crisis, and Texas will continue offering much-needed relief until he fulfills his responsibility to secure the border.”
The Los Angeles City Council passed a motion on June 9 to formally establish the city as a “Sanctuary City.”
Furthermore, the L.A. City Council has approved another motion on Wednesday morning, urging the City Attorney’s Office to investigate potential crimes committed on or before June 14 when Governor Abbott sent 42 migrants to Los Angeles.
