Lonzo Ball Fires Back at Stephen A. Smith for Outlandish Claims Regarding His Injury

Lonzo Ball’s ongoing left knee injury remains a heartbreaking tale in the NBA. During a match against the Golden State Warriors on January 14, 2022, the Chicago Bulls guard was forced to exit the court, and he hasn’t played a single minute of basketball since then.

Initially diagnosed with a torn meniscus, Ball missed the second half of the 2021-2022 season. However, doctors later discovered that he had a bone bruise on his knee, which necessitated another surgery and caused him to sit out the entire 2022-2023 season. Now, after undergoing a third surgery on the same knee in March, Ball has already been ruled out for the 2023-2024 season. He recently confirmed this unfortunate news on Trae Young’s podcast (source).

On Tuesday, Stephen A. Smith of ESPN allegedly claimed that Ball’s recovery was progressing so poorly that he had difficulty standing up after sitting down (source). Ball, upon hearing about Smith’s statement, promptly took to Twitter (yes, it’s still being referred to as that) and uploaded a video in which he repeatedly demonstrated sitting down and standing up to disprove Smith’s assertions.

In the video, Ball addresses Smith by saying, “Stephen A., who are your sources, bro? I actually like you, man. I don’t really know you like that, but I like you. I’m coming back, man. Come on!”

While Twitter may be in its twilight years, it still remains one of the internet’s greatest sources of entertainment.

Just remember, Lonzo Ball is capable of standing up after sitting down. However, he still experiences discomfort when walking up a flight of stairs; this was evident during his last interaction with the Bulls media.

Update: Stephen A. Smith has responded.
