Lizzo Faces New Lawsuit: Former Employee Alleges Harassment and Discrimination

Lizzo Faces New Lawsuit Alleging Hostile Work Environment

CBS News partner site ET reports that Lizzo received the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award from the Black Music Action Coalition on Thursday evening while facing another lawsuit from a former employee. Asha Daniels, a wardrobe designer who worked on Lizzo’s tour earlier this year, filed the new complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that Lizzo condoned a hostile work environment where staff experienced harassment, discrimination, and bullying.

The lawsuit names Lizzo, her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. (BGBT), and her wardrobe and tour managers. This lawsuit follows another one from August, where three of Lizzo’s former dancers accused her of sexual harassment and fostering toxic working conditions.

Daniels, a professional clothing designer, claims that she was contacted by one of Lizzo’s tour managers in January 2023 and was hired to alter and repair clothing for the tour’s dancers. She alleges that throughout her employment, she experienced racial and sexual harassment, disability discrimination, and assault. She also claims that the dancers were humiliated and degraded, and that the stage crew made inappropriate comments about them. Additionally, Daniels asserts that she was overworked, denied breaks, and even denied medical care when she had an allergic reaction during the tour.

As a result of her termination, Daniels experienced various physical and mental health issues, including anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, migraines, and fatigue.

Lizzo’s spokesperson has responded to the allegations, calling them “bogus” and a “publicity-stunt lawsuit.” However, the attorney representing Daniels states that more former Lizzo employees have come forward with similar stories of abuse and harassment.

Lizzo’s Recognition at the Black Music Action Coalition Gala

Despite the ongoing lawsuit, Lizzo attended the 2023 Black Music Action Coalition Gala, where she was honored with the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award. ET reported that Lizzo appeared to be in good spirits and was seen chatting with other celebrities at the event.
