Live On-Air: Kaye Adams Unable to Work due to Unexpected Throat Infection

Kaye Adams, the well-known television presenter and panelist on Loose Women, had to unexpectedly call in sick during her regular BBC Radio show, Good Morning Scotland, on Wednesday morning. Adams, who was scheduled to host a phone-in discussing the Scottish government’s recommendation to decriminalize street drugs, woke up with a severe throat infection, which forced her to step down from her hosting duties.

Shortly before the scheduled start of her segment at 9:00am, Adams addressed her illness, stating, “I opened my mouth and I had no idea what would come out, which is what I usually do, to be honest. I’m struggling today. I might just do the phone-in, and then we might get emergency services in, I think, because I think it’s failing me. I thought it was better than it was, but when I got here this morning… it’s going to be annoying, I’m sorry.”

Due to her condition, Adams admitted that she might not even be able to host the phone-in, stating, “Somebody will be with you at nine o’clock.” Her co-hosts, Gary Robertson and Laura Maxwell, confirmed that Adams had gone home to rest, as her voice had been reduced to a “squeak.” Robertson added, “Stay tuned to find out who’ll be presenting at nine.”

In Adams’ absence, guest presenters Lucy Whyte and Laura McGhie were brought in as emergency cover. Adams, who has been with Loose Women since 1999, recently dismissed rumors of feuds among the show’s stars as nonsense. She expressed her frustration with constant speculation about off-set dynamics, stating, “I do get fed up that almost always we will be asked whether we b**ch about each other.”

Adams emphasized that there are no feuds on the show and that the cast members find the rumors amusing. She said, “It is certainly not a viper’s nest. The one thing that I can guarantee when I go to the Loose Women, regardless of the line-up of women, regardless of the topics, at some point in that day, I will have a real belly laugh. And I don’t know how many other people can say that about their working life. I’m really delighted to say, hand on heart at some point in the day, we will be creasing ourselves, which is a lovely thing.”

During a recent podcast episode, Adams shared an embarrassing experience that almost prevented her from working. She recounted injuring her leg during a strenuous F45 workout, causing her leg to suddenly give out while walking in London. She described the incident as embarrassing, stating, “I just couldn’t understand what was happening to me. Usually at a tube station, I flamboyantly skip up and down the stairs – ‘look at me, I’m 60 and I’m skipping!'”
