Lev Parnas, Former Associate of Giuliani, Voluntarily Offers to Provide Testimony Regarding Alleged Attempts to Tarnish Biden Family

A prominent figure in the Ukraine scandal involving former President Donald Trump and Joe Biden has delivered a warning to Republicans. Lev Parnas, a former Trump ally, wrote a 10-page letter to House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), revealing his efforts to gather negative information about Biden and his son Hunter from Ukrainian sources. Parnas made it clear that there is no evidence of any crimes committed by either of the Bidens relating to Ukrainian politics.

Parnas, a Ukrainian American businessman and former associate of Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, has been sentenced to prison for multiple offenses, including campaign finance and wire fraud violations, and is currently under house arrest.

The Ukraine scandal unfolded in 2019 when Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, his potential Democratic rival in the 2020 presidential election. Biden’s son, Hunter, had previously served on the board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma. State Department officials testified during Trump’s impeachment proceedings that the ousting of a Ukrainian prosecutor, which Biden advocated for, was in the interest of the U.S. government and not a personal agenda of Biden’s. However, Republicans have persisted in pursuing allegations against the Biden family.

Parnas and Giuliani attempted to obtain damaging information from Ukraine for over a year and a half but were unsuccessful. Parnas affirmed earlier claims about being informed of a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden before it became public knowledge. In his letter, Parnas offered to testify under oath about his role in Giuliani’s efforts.

Parnas urged Comer to abandon the investigation into the Bidens, calling it a futile pursuit. Comer’s committee has focused on alleged bribes in Ukraine, as well as Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings in Romania and China.

The committee is scheduled to hear testimony from an IRS agent regarding an investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax payments. Hunter Biden plans to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges.

When asked about Parnas’ letter, Comer expressed skepticism regarding its credibility.
