Letters: Biden rejects Hochul’s request for assistance with migrants

The Concern: Governor Hochul’s Meeting with White House Officials Regarding the Migrant Crisis in New York

Governor Hochul embarked on a strategic trip to Washington to address the pressing issue of the migrant crisis in New York (“Biden to NYC: Deal with it,” Sept. 1).

Many hoped that she would finally tackle the root cause of the problem—the open border. However, disappointingly, she took a different approach and timidly requested federal assistance in obtaining work permits for illegal migrants.

If such permits are granted, it would attract individuals from all over the world to flock to New York City with hopes of earning a salary. Unfortunately, this would not solve the biggest issue at hand—lack of housing. It would be logical to expect our governor to utilize the vast empty acres in upstate New York to address the housing dilemma, but apparently common sense isn’t prevailing.

After meeting with Biden officials, Governor Hochul actually acknowledged, “They understand that a lot of time has passed, and the situation has only grown more dire.”

It raises the question of how many times our governor will continue to take the statements from the Biden White House at face value.

Shouldn’t the governor start paying attention to the actions of White House officials rather than their empty promises? It seems that, indeed, some people can be fooled all the time.

President Biden is now shifting the responsibility to private businesses, urging them to step up and assist with the migrant problem in New York City.

However, this approach is flawed. It is not the duty of private businesses to alleviate the crisis.

The Biden administration is the one that has opened the borders, allowing these migrants to enter our country. Therefore, the responsibility solely falls on our government.

The Biden administration is neglecting its obligations towards our city. It is unfair to burden our city government with the migrants’ issues.

Our mayor and governor keep pleading for help, while the Biden administration continues to turn its back. Unfortunately, it seems that our city will remain in turmoil for the foreseeable future.

It is not just the president, but also the governor of this state, the mayor of New York City, and all the Democrats who have contributed to the influx of illegal immigrants into this country. Enough is enough. This is an invasion, not merely a casual border crossing.

If people want to come to America, they should do it through legal channels. Why aren’t we hearing this from the Democrats?

Why are we welcoming individuals who are unwilling to fight for their own country? Freedom comes at a cost—it requires sacrifice, dedication, and hard work to preserve it.

It’s time for the people to rise up. Politicians should remember that they work for us, not the other way around. We don’t have to tolerate their actions.

Until the migrant crisis hit New York City, liberals were oblivious to the adverse consequences of the open-border policies implemented by the Biden administration. The Southern states that had to bear the brunt of the influx were largely ignored.

Now that the illegal immigrants have become the center of attention in New York City, local leaders are desperately seeking federal assistance, only to be rebuffed.

Unless the migrant crisis is brought to Washington, DC, the administration will continue to disregard it.

My proposal is to establish tent refugee centers between the Washington and Lincoln Memorials. Perhaps when the president is confronted with the crisis firsthand, he will take action.

Thanks to Biden, Hochul, and Adams, New Yorkers now face a new fear.

We are witnessing rampant incidents of smash-and-loot robberies, subways being used as shelter for the mentally ill, and people openly using drugs on the streets.

Moreover, we are now confronted with thousands of illegal immigrants being housed in makeshift tent cities within local neighborhoods.

Biden appointed Vice President Kamala Harris as the border czar, yet she has done nothing. Hochul lacks an understanding of how a major city operates, and Adams complains but refuses to acknowledge that we are no longer a sanctuary city.

Hopefully, citizens will come to their senses regarding these progressive policies and vote these politicians out of office.

This situation will only drag our city further down into chaos.
