Leslie Jones shares stunning revelation: Chris Rock seeks counseling with his daughters following Will Smith’s slap incident

In March 2022, Chris Rock sought advice from Will Smith after the infamous Oscars slap incident, as revealed by comedian Leslie Jones in a recent interview with PEOPLE. Jones emphasized the humiliation and lasting impact that the incident had on Rock, highlighting the fact that his daughters Lola, 21, and Zahra, 19, witnessed it. Jones mentioned that Rock had to attend counseling sessions with his daughters to deal with the aftermath.

The incident occurred when Smith, 54, couldn’t tolerate a joke made by Rock, 58, about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head while presenting an award at the Oscars. Pinkett Smith had shaved her head due to alopecia, a hair-loss condition. In response to the joke, Smith got up from his front row seat, stormed the stage, and slapped Rock in the face. He then returned to his seat and yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth” twice. Despite later apologizing, Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and received a 10-year ban from attending its events.

Jones emphasized the impact of the incident on Rock, and how it led to feelings of humiliation. In June, Pinkett Smith expressed her desire for both men to reconcile and heal on her show, “Red Table Talk.” It took Rock a year to publicly address the incident in his Netflix comedy special called “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.” During the live broadcast of the special at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, Rock clarified that he didn’t see himself as a victim and humorously likened the slap to being hit by Suge Smith. Rock also emphasized that physical pain hurts more than words, and that the incident still had an impact on him.

Rock expressed his resilience by stating that he would never be seen crying on Oprah or Gayle’s shows. He made it clear that he wasn’t going to let the incident define him, and that he wouldn’t succumb to emotional vulnerability in public.
