June 30 (UPI) — The acclaimed actor Alan Arkin has sadly left us.
Arkin, best known for his role in the film Little Miss Sunshine, passed away in California this week at the age of 89, according to a report by NBC News published on Friday.
Arkin’s sons, Adam, Matthew, and Anthony, confirmed their father’s passing to People.
“Our father was an extraordinarily talented individual, both as an artist and as a man. As a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was cherished and will be deeply missed,” the siblings said in a statement.
Arkin won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Edwin Hoover, the grandfather of Olive Hoover (played by Abigail Breslin), in the 2006 film Little Miss Sunshine.
His notable film credits include The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming, Edward Scissorhands, Glengarry Glen Ross, Thirteen Conversations About One Thing, and Argo.
More recently, Arkin starred alongside Michael Douglas in the Netflix series The Kominsky Method. He received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Norman Newlander.
Additionally, Arkin had a successful career on Broadway and made contributions as a writer and director.
