Leah Remini Accuses Church of Scientology of Aggressive Harassment in Amended Lawsuit

Leah Remini, who recently filed a lawsuit against the Church of Scientology, has accused the organization of retaliating with a campaign of continued, aggressive harassment. Remini, 53, initially sued the church and its leader David Miscavige in August for harassment, stalking, defamation, and other alleged illegal activities. She claims Scientology has been using mob-style operations and attacks against her since she left the faith in 2013.

Remini has now amended her lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, stating that the harassment against her has escalated to a much greater degree than before. Scientology has not yet responded publicly to these new allegations. Previously, the church called Remini’s lawsuit pure lunacy and accused her of spreading falsehoods and hate speech.

Remini’s amended complaint states, “Since the filing of my lawsuit, these attacks have escalated dramatically and have now more than ever focused not only on me but my family members, my friends, and professional colleagues. To date, my requests have been dismissed as these abuses continue on a daily basis.”

She also claims that potential fraud, significantly higher than any witnessed before, has been flagged on several of her credit cards since filing the lawsuit. Furthermore, a tutor hired by Remini who has also been targeted by Scientology promotions was hacked, resulting in a loss of $15,000 to their business. Another friend of Remini had an unauthorized charge of over $12,000 made to her business account.

In addition to Remini, Mike Rinder, a former senior executive of Scientology and friend and co-host of Remini’s, has accused the church of surveillance. Rinder and his wife claim to have been followed by an unknown, suspicious vehicle. Remini’s lawsuit also mentions another friend who was harassed by an unknown vehicle attempting to enter her gated community.

Remini’s lawyers state that two white men dressed in black were seen on security camera knocking on her mother’s door at 5 a.m., which she perceives as a threatening message. Remini’s lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for the harm she claims Scientology has caused her and her career.

Leah Remini, who joined the Church of Scientology as a child in 1979 before leaving over three decades later, has been a vocal critic of the organization and its leader, David Miscavige. In 2016, she produced and co-created the Emmy-winning documentary series “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.”

Remini recently expressed relief at the sentencing of Danny Masterson, a noted celebrity Scientologist, who was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for two counts of forcible rape. She has accused the Church of Scientology of using its financial resources, religious protection, and relationships to withhold justice.

Global News has reached out to the Church of Scientology for comment on Remini’s amended lawsuit and allegations.
