Kenigsberg became aware of the situation when a childhood friend mentioned the construction on his land, prompting him to investigate further. He visited the property and saw the under-construction house, which was listed for sale at $1,475,000. The lot has been in Kenigsberg’s family since 1953 when his father purchased it, and he obtained the deed after his mother passed away in 2007. Although the defendants are not accused of orchestrating the scheme, the lawsuit alleges that they should have been aware of the fraud. Kenigsberg’s lawyer mentioned the presence of similar scams occurring elsewhere in the country. The police have initiated a criminal investigation to determine who received money from the buyers. The lawsuit seeks to invalidate the deed transfer and have the house demolished, and construction on the property has been halted.
