Lawsuit Filed Against OpenAI’s ChatGPT Creator, Accusing Them of Utilizing “Illegally Obtained Confidential Data”

A new lawsuit has been filed against OpenAI, the artificial intelligence firm behind ChatGPT, alleging that the company has unlawfully obtained millions of users’ private information to train its tools. The lawsuit calls for compensation to be provided to these users. OpenAI is accused of developing its AI products, including ChatGPT and Dall-E image generator, using stolen private information from hundreds of millions of internet users.

The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of California, goes even further to claim that OpenAI poses a potentially catastrophic risk to humanity. It accuses the company of prioritizing profit over privacy, security, and ethics by secretly harvesting large amounts of personal data from the internet without the owners’ or users’ knowledge or permission.

The stolen information allegedly includes all inputs into OpenAI’s AI tools, such as prompts from ChatGPT, as well as users’ account information, payment details, location data, chat and search data, and more. The suit also implicates Microsoft, an OpenAI partner, in the alleged data theft.

According to the lawsuit, OpenAI’s products would not be as successful as they are today without the stolen data. It claims that OpenAI rushed its products to market without implementing proper safeguards, putting humans at risk. These tools now pose potential dangers to humanity and could even eliminate the human species as a threat.

The lawsuit further alleges that the defendants have enough information to create digital clones of individuals, including replicating their voices and likenesses. The tools have become so powerful that they could even render certain professions obsolete.

As a result, the plaintiffs are demanding that OpenAI be transparent about the data it collects and open its “black box.” They also seek compensation for the stolen data and the option for users to opt out of data collection when using OpenAI tools.
