Lauren Anderson, a Former Playboy Playmate, Reflects on Her Debut Nude Photoshoot

Former Playboy Playmate Lauren Anderson revealed a moment of vulnerability during her first nude photoshoot for the iconic brand. Anderson confessed to blacking out due to extreme dieting, stating that she “wanted to be really skinny” and had not eaten anything prior to the shoot. Thankfully, the makeup team was quick to intervene and prevent her from fainting. This incident occurred after Anderson was selected to participate in Playboy’s 2002 reality show, “Girl Next Door: The Search for a Playboy Centerfold,” in which she competed against 11 other women for the title of Playmate of the Month. As part of the show, the final six contestants had to pose naked, which led to Anderson’s frightening experience. However, despite this setback, Anderson ultimately won the competition and graced the cover of the July 2002 issue of Playboy, earning $25,000 for her achievement.

Currently 43 years old, Anderson is now featured on the popular A&E docuseries called “Secrets of Playboy,” which is set to premiere its second season on Monday. Reflecting on her journey, Anderson explained that she auditioned for her first Playboy gig as a senior at the University of Florida, initially going “as a joke” to see what it was all about. To her surprise, she was chosen, even though she had initially been reserved about posing fully nude. Anderson worked for Playboy until 2012, and during her time there, she took on various roles such as hosting parties and benefits and conducting tours of the infamous Playboy Mansion.

On the A&E docuseries, Anderson watches a segment from “Girl Next Door” where she poses on all fours, a moment she now finds cringeworthy. She admits to feeling insecure and uncomfortable during that time, stating, “That wasn’t who I was, being sexy and wearing sexy clothes.” Nonetheless, she does not regret her experiences as they have transformed her into a confident individual who embraces her body and all its imperfections.

Anderson shared an interesting anecdote about Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. After winning “Girl Next Door,” she sent Hefner a thank-you note, a gesture that surprised him as no other Playmate had done so before. She left college and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career with Playboy, embracing opportunities that came her way. A highlight for Anderson was meeting her husband, former professional baseball player Reid Brignac, at a Playboy party. The couple now has two sons together.

Contrary to popular belief, Anderson clarified that the Playboy Mansion was not solely filled with older men; in fact, many young Hollywood individuals frequented the establishment. She did mention meeting basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at one point, expressing her awe at his imposing presence.

In the A&E docuseries, one of the discussed topics is the women of Playboy finding their photos on pornographic websites. Anderson admitted that this has happened to her but stated that it doesn’t overly bother her since she never participated in explicit content. She believes that her photos simply showcase her naked body, a decision she made willingly.

Despite her pride in being a former Playboy Playmate, Anderson acknowledged the negative perceptions society often has towards women associated with the brand. Strangers labeling her as a “whore” or a “bimbo” is the most challenging aspect of her previous job. However, she remains determined to have a voice and speak out on various topics, regardless of the judgment she receives. Anderson decided to stop working for Playboy after the birth of her first child, who is now 11 years old. While she has not yet discussed her past career with him, he incidentally stumbled upon one of her photos while she was autographing it for a fan. Amusingly, his only concern was why she was only wearing one earring.
