Launch of Starlink Satellites Aborted by SpaceX

July 19 (UPI) — In a last-minute decision on Tuesday, SpaceX canceled the launch of a Falcon 9 rocket carrying Starlink satellites.

The objective of the mission was to place 15 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit, expanding the company’s Internet network.

Unfortunately, just 5 seconds before takeoff at 10:25 p.m. from Vandenberg Space Force Base, the launch was called off.

During the live broadcast, Zach Luppen of SpaceX explained, “There are countless potential issues that can arise during a launch, so we prioritize caution. If the team or the vehicle detects any anomalies, we stop the countdown.”

He reassured viewers that both the vehicle and the payload were functioning properly.

Although the weather in Santa Barbara County was foggy, it was not cited as a reason for the launch cancellation.

A backup launch opportunity has been scheduled for 9:09 p.m. PT on Wednesday.

This launch would have marked SpaceX’s 48th launch of the year and its 247th launch overall.
