High wind warnings in Southern California will result in gusts through the mountain passes and valleys as the week begins.
Holiday travelers in affected areas can anticipate persistent strong winds from the north, with velocities reaching 30 to 45 mph and gusts up to 60 mph in the western San Gabriel Mountains, along the Highway 14 Corridor, and on the Grapevine segment of the 5 Freeway in northern Los Angeles County. There may also be gusts up to 80 mph in the western San Gabriel Mountains.
A high wind warning is in place until 10 a.m. on Tuesday for these areas and parts of inland Orange County, the San Bernardino and Riverside county valleys, as well as sections of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Notable wind gusts were reported, including a peak gust of 93 mph at Magic Mountain Truck Trail in the Santa Clarita area. Other areas that experienced strong gusts were Browns Canyon in the Santa Susana Mountains (87 mph), Boney Mountain in the western Santa Monica Mountains and High School Hill in the Santa Lucia Mountains (70 mph), and NE Highway in the western San Gabriel Mountains (69 mph).
Following Sunday’s winds, there were reports of downed trees, including one in Mission Hills that caused part of a sidewalk to lift.
“Hold on! The strong winds will persist for the next 24 to 48 hours,” according to NBCLA forecaster Belen De Leon.
A less severe wind advisory is in effect in the western Antelope Valley until 10 p.m. on Monday. Anticipate north winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

A wind advisory was in place until 1 a.m. on Monday in the Santa Monica Mountains, Santa Clarita, and western San Fernando valleys. Furthermore, a high wind warning was in effect until 3 p.m. on Monday.
