Latest Update: Authorities Probe Double Shooting Incident at Worcester State University: State Police and DA Investigate

Massachusetts State Police and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are currently investigating a double shooting incident that occurred at Worcester State University. This incident has triggered a series of emergency measures and has left the campus community in shock.

Early Saturday morning, at approximately 2:49 a.m., Worcester State University issued a lockdown announcement, urging all individuals on campus to shelter-in-place until further updates are provided. This measure was taken in response to the shooting incident that took place near a parking garage on campus.

Law enforcement officers were immediately dispatched to the university to provide assistance and investigate the incident. Two victims were swiftly transported to UMass Medical Center for medical attention.

Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that the double-shooting was the result of an altercation and not an active shooter scenario. Importantly, neither the victims nor the suspected assailants are enrolled as students at Worcester State University, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

In an effort to gather additional evidence and information related to the incident, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office encourages individuals who were present in the vicinity of Wasylean Hall and Sheehan Hall to share any photos or videos they may have captured. Massachusetts State Police, University Police, and Worcester Police are actively seeking this material.

Although the shelter-in-place order has been lifted, there is still a significant police presence on campus. Therefore, it is advised that the public avoid the area where law enforcement personnel are working.

Both the State Police and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are collaborating on the investigation into this shooting incident. Updates will be provided as new information emerges.

As a result of this tragic incident, Worcester State University has made the decision to cancel homecoming, family weekend, and all scheduled events.
