Ovarian failure, also known as ovarian insufficiency, occurs when the ovaries stop functioning and menstruation ceases before the age of 40.
There are two types: primary ovarian failure caused by surgery, cancer treatments, or certain diseases, and secondary ovarian failure where the ovaries are normal but hormonal signals from the brain are disrupted. This can be due to eating disorders, excessive exercise, and certain medications.
