Lakeview Police Department Issues Alert Due to Spike in Car Thefts

On November 22, Lima was hit with a sudden surge in car thefts, prompting Lima Police Department officials to reach out to the public for help in preventing future incidents.

According to Detective Sgt. Jason Garlock, from October 1 to November 21 this year, the LPD has dealt with approximately 20 reports of stolen or attempted stolen vehicles. The preferred targets for thieves are 2008 and newer models of Kia and Hyundai vehicles, including the Kia Soul, Forte, Optima, Rio, Spectra, and the Hyundai Kona and Elantra.

Owners of these vehicles are advised to try to park in a secure structure or garage. If that’s not an option, the LPD suggests parking in well-lit, heavily populated areas near homes, and ideally in the line of sight of home security cameras.

If you have any information related to these thefts or the individuals responsible, contact the Lima Police Department at 419-227-4444, Juvenile Investigator Chad Kunkleman at 419-221-5297, or Garlock at 419-221-5291.
