Lakeview Brush Fire Expands to 7,600 Acres and Shows 5% Containment

A massive wildfire engulfed the Lakeview area and continued to spread throughout the night. While firefighting crews managed to establish a containment line around the blaze, new evacuations were ordered.

As of approximately 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Rabbit Fire had ravaged an estimated 7,600 acres, with a mere 5% containment, as reported by the Riverside County Fire Department.

An evacuation order was issued at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday for the area located north of Gilman Springs Road, east of Jack Rabbit Trail, south of First Street, and west of California Avenue and Highway 79.

Furthermore, at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, an evacuation order was issued for the regions north and west of Highway 79, south of First Street, and east of California Avenue, according to the fire department. Additionally, an evacuation order was issued for the area north of County Landfill, east of Highway 79, south of East First Street, and west of Manzanita Park Road.

An evacuation warning was issued for the area north of East First Street, east of Jack Rabbit Trail, south of West Fourth Street, and west of California Avenue. Similarly, the area east of Manzanita Park Road, west of Highland Springs Road, south of East First Street, and north of Forest Boundary Line received an evacuation warning.

Ascertaining the exact number of individuals affected by the evacuation orders and warnings has yet to be determined.

Beaumont High School, located at 39139 Cherry Valley Blvd, served as a safe haven for small animals, while the San Jacinto Animal Shelter, situated at 581 S. Grand Ave. in San Jacinto, accommodated large animals.

The ignition of the Rabbit Fire was reported around 3:25 p.m. on Friday in the vicinity of Jack Rabbit Trail and Alessandro Boulevard, to the east of Mystic Lake and approximately halfway between Moreno Valley and San Jacinto, according to the fire department.

During the outbreak of the fire, a man sustained burn injuries, with reports suggesting that he may have been inside or near a vehicle that caught fire. The victim was promptly taken to Riverside University Health System-Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment.

California Highway Patrol officers and sheriff’s deputies redirected northbound vehicles away from Gilman Springs Road to Bridge Street. Moreover, there were additional road closures on Highway 79 in the Lambs Canyon area from Gilman Springs Road to California Avenue.
