A 24-year-old probationer from Lake Elsinore, Jonathan Manriquez, has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received a nine-year prison sentence. Manriquez was involved in a confrontation in Perris where he allegedly shot three men, killing one and seriously injuring the other two. He was also charged with assault with a gun and faced sentence-enhancing allegations. However, he admitted to one sentence-enhancing allegation and pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter at the Southwest Justice Center. His other charges were dismissed, and the sentence-enhancing allegations were stricken.
Riverside County District Attorney’s office public information specialist Brooke Beare confirmed that Manriquez was immediately sentenced to nine years in prison.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez, the incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on August 14, 2022. Manriquez was involved in an unspecified dispute with the three victims, one of whom was 36-year-old Robert Chavez from Perris. During the confrontation, Manriquez pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds, hitting all three men.
Tragically, Robert Chavez was killed at the scene, while the other two men sustained serious injuries. Manriquez fled before the arrival of patrol deputies.
Homicide detectives were able to gather enough evidence within 24 hours to identify Manriquez as the shooter. He was subsequently arrested without incident the following day while seeking medical treatment for undisclosed injuries at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.
The court documents only identify the two wounded individuals as “F.M.” and “S.C.”
Court records reveal that Manriquez has prior misdemeanor convictions for reckless driving and hit-and-run resulting in property damage.
