According to the cinematographer of “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Lady Gaga insisted on being called “Lee” during the film’s production.

Gaga, known by her real name Stefani Germanotta, confirmed through Twitter that she would be joining Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel. She will portray Harley Quinn, a character with a historically toxic romance with the Joker.

During an episode of “The Trenches Talk” podcast, Larry Sher, the cinematographer for both “Joker” and its upcoming sequel, expressed that he never truly interacted with the real Gaga because she was fully immersed in her character throughout the entire production process.

Sher shared his initial struggles in connecting with Gaga, feeling as if there was a disconnect between them. However, once he referred to her as “Lee” at the suggestion of an assistant director, their connection transformed.

According to Sher, referring to Gaga as “Lee” allowed her to remain in character. This change greatly affected their dynamic and communication.

Sher noted that working with actors who stay in character is not new to him, as Joaquin Phoenix also maintained his character throughout the filming of the first “Joker” movie.

Sher recounted Phoenix’s commitment to staying in character and recalled an instance where Phoenix apologized for his behavior, which Sher quickly reassured him about.
