La Quinta Sex Trafficking Operation Results in 14 Arrests: A Look Back at July 1, 2022

Exactly one year ago today, on July 1, 2022, an operation took place in La Quinta, resulting in the arrest of over a dozen adults suspected of responding to prostitution advertisements and engaging in paid sexual activities. However, it is important to note that these individuals are no longer in custody.

Out of the 12 men who were booked at the John J. Benoit Center, 11 were able to post a jail bond of $2,500 each and secure their release. Additionally, a woman who was arrested during the operation managed to post a $5,000 bail bond the following day.

Although a man from Visalia cannot be found in either Riverside County’s or Tulare County’s inmate system, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department assures that all 13 subjects were indeed arrested and subsequently released from the county jail in Indio.

In addition to these arrests, a minor was also taken into custody during the operation. However, they were later released into the care of a family member.

The sex trafficking operation, conducted by the Riverside County Anti-Trafficking Task Force and the La Quinta Special Enforcement Team, resulted in the apprehension of 14 suspects. As part of the operation, decoy advertisements were placed on websites known for soliciting online prostitution.

To apprehend the alleged customers, task force members maintained communication with them and arranged predetermined meeting locations. The suspects were then arrested upon their arrival at these locations.

Among the suspects involved in the operation, there were three from Indio, three from Cathedral City, two from Palm Springs, two from Palm Desert, one from Thermal, and one from Morongo Valley, all residing in the Coachella Valley.

To combat the exploitation of victims through force, fraud, or coercion in the eastern half of the Coachella Valley, the eastern Riverside County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force was established in March 2020. This task force not only addresses the issue but also provides services, education, and outreach for victims.
