LA County Commemorates Father’s Day with Car Events and Remembrance Service

Father’s Day in Los Angeles County was celebrated in various locations, including Rodeo Drive and Dodger Stadium.

The 28th Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance started at 10 a.m. and lasted until 4 p.m. It took place on Rodeo Drive, showcasing over 100 vehicles, including supercars, race cars, and classic cars.

O’Gara Coach Beverly Hills organized a display of nine new luxury vehicles, which included the debut of Aston Martin’s DB 12 sports car and DBX70 SUV on the West Coast.

Admission to the event was free, and nearby garages provided parking facilities.

The Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo offered chauffeured rides in classic cars from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tickets were available for $15 for adults aged 18 to 61, $10 for adults aged 62 and older, and $5 for children aged 11 to 17. Children must be at least 55 inches tall to ride. Additionally, adults aged 21 and over could enjoy beer tasting included in the ticket price.

Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary hosted a Father’s Day Remembrance Service at 10 a.m., led by Rabbi Cantor Marcelo Gindlin of the Malibu Jewish Center. Attendees had the opportunity to share their stories and memories during a session led by psychotherapist Maggi Scharf.

Prior to the game against the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers players, along with their fathers and children, participated in the ceremonial first pitch. They also made the iconic “It’s time for Dodger baseball” announcement.

Major League Baseball dedicated Father’s Day to the fight against prostate cancer, as it has done since 1996. All on-field personnel wore specially designed blue-themed caps and blue ribbon decals. Players had the option to wear matching blue socks. The blue ribbon was prominently displayed on the bases and the official dugout lineup cards. MLB pledged to donate 100% of its royalties from Father’s Day socks and caps to MLB Charities, which would then support the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s mission in the fight against prostate cancer.

The Home Run Challenge, which started on May 20, concluded on Father’s Day. Fans had pledged to donate money for every home run hit during this period, contributing to the fight against prostate cancer.

In his Father’s Day proclamation, President Joe Biden emphasized the important role fathers play in raising the next generation and teaching values, fostering healthy perspectives on masculinity, helping their children through challenges, and equipping them with moral guidance.

The origins of Father’s Day can be traced back to Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to honor her single father, William Jackson Smart. The first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington in 1910 on the third Sunday of June, after President Calvin Coolidge recommended it as a national holiday in 1924. It was officially recognized as a holiday in 1972 by President Richard Nixon.
