Kings’ NBA In-Season Tournament group-play standing after win vs. Wolves originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The Sacramento Kings are on the verge of securing their spot in the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament quarterfinals.
After a convincing 124-111 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday at the Target Center, the Kings now boast a perfect 3-0 record in Group C play.
If the Golden State Warriors fall to the San Antonio Spurs, the Kings will secure the top spot in Group C. Even if the Warriors win, the Kings still have the opportunity to claim the group stage by defeating Golden State on Tuesday at the Golden 1 Center.
In the event of a loss to Golden State, the Kings can still advance to the knockout stage as the Western Conference’s wild card, with tiebreakers such as head-to-head record, point differential, and total points scored coming into play.
As for the other teams in Group C, the Oklahoma City Thunder (2-1) and San Antonio Spurs (0-3) have been eliminated, while the Timberwolves (2-1) still have a chance to win the group stage with a victory over the Thunder combined with a Warriors win over the Kings on Tuesday.
The Kings’ triumph over the Timberwolves put an end to a two-game losing streak and concluded a rigorous six-game road trip. With three days off before their next game against the Warriors at the Golden 1 Center on Tuesday, the Kings will have time to regroup and prepare for the crucial matchup.
