President Biden had a significant meeting on Monday with King Charles III at the iconic Windsor Castle, marking their first encounter since Charles ascended the throne.
Upon arriving at Windsor, the president was warmly welcomed by the King who walked out to a white tent adorned with a red carpet to greet the presidential motorcade. As they exchanged handshakes, the royal band played the resounding notes of the Star Spangled Banner.
The two influential leaders strolled together, exploring the vicinity of the tent and gracefully taking in the sight of the esteemed Honor Guard. President Biden, displaying camaraderie, gently placed his hand on Charles’s back as they proceeded into the grandeur of the castle. Subsequently, they convened for a meeting within the confines of Windsor and then scheduled a captivating engagement on climate affairs with renowned philanthropists and investors.
In April, President Biden and Charles held a conversation, where the former extended his congratulations to the King on his coronation. During September, the president paid his respects at the funeral of the late Queen. While the president was unable to attend the coronation in May, first lady Jill Biden graciously represented the United States at the momentous occasion.
Earlier on Monday, Biden engaged in a meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the iconic 10 Downing Street in London.
With a dash of humor, President Biden greeted Sunak and expressed his delight at being back. The president playfully mentioned how they seem to meet almost every month since Sunak assumed the role of prime minister. Last month, Biden hosted Sunak at the White House, and prior to that, they united in Japan for the prestigious Group of Seven summit in May. Furthermore, the president made a notable visit to Sunak in Northern Ireland back in April.
“We consider ourselves incredibly privileged and fortunate to have you here,” Sunak graciously remarked.
Later in the day, President Biden will bid farewell to the United Kingdom as he embarks on a journey to Vilnius, Lithuania, to attend the NATO summit.
