Kimmel, Colbert, Fallon, Oliver, and Meyers Unite for a Collaborative Project

Late-night hosts Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, John Oliver, and Seth Meyers have joined forces to create a unique and engaging podcast called “Strike Force Five.” The name of the podcast is inspired by their personal text chain. Since their respective shows have been on hiatus due to the Writers Guild of America strike, all profits generated from the podcast will be used to support their staff members. The podcast is proudly sponsored by Mint Mobile and Diageo, with a majority of the funding stemming from these companies. Kimmel took on the role of the inaugural moderator, but this responsibility will be shared among the hosts in future episodes.

“What would happen if five of America’s Top 11 most-beloathed talk show hosts all talked on top of each other for an hour? You’re about to find out,” stated Kimmel at the beginning of the first episode, which premiered on Spotify on Wednesday. He also highlighted the lack of communication during the last WGA strike among late-night hosts and the resulting chaos. As a solution, Stephen suggested they come together to discuss their issues and concerns.

Oliver humorously remarked, “Would it be fair to say that in 2008, the hosts didn’t get along quite as well as we do now? I know it’s an incredibly low bar, but back then, it was a sequence of dying marriages.” In 2008, the late-night hosts included Kimmel, Colbert, Oliver, Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno, Dave Letterman, and Craig Ferguson. Kimmel shared that their shows remained off the air at the start of the strike, but Letterman and Ferguson returned first, causing some resentment among the other hosts. The podcast will consist of at least 12 episodes.
