John Gosling, an esteemed keyboardist for the iconic British rock group The Kinks, tragically passed away at the age of 75 on Friday.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with John’s wife and family,” accompanied by a poignant black-and-white video of Gosling.

Ray Davies, co-founder of The Kinks, shared his condolences, “Our deepest sympathies go to his wife Theresa and family. Rest in Peace, dearest John.”

Lead guitarist Dave Davies expressed his profound sadness, “I’m deeply dismayed by the passing of John Gosling. He was not only a dear friend but also a vital contributor to the musical legacy of The Kinks during his time with us. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his wife and family. I will forever hold deep affection and love for him in my heart. He was truly a remarkable musician and an exceptional individual.”

John Gosling, also known as “John the Baptist,” was a classically trained organist and pianist. He joined The Kinks in 1970, making his debut during the recording session for the iconic song “Lola.”

Throughout his eight years with the influential rock group, Gosling contributed to the creation of 10 albums, including the acclaimed “Muswell Hillbillies” and “Everybody’s in Show-Biz.”

In 1978, Gosling made the decision to leave The Kinks, but his passion for music never waned. In 1994, he became a founding member of the Kast Off Kinks, a group composed of former Kinks members. Gosling remained an active musician until his retirement in 2008, delighting audiences alongside Mick Avory, Jim Rodford, and John Dalton.

During an interview on Kast off Kinks, Gosling was asked how he envisioned his life if he hadn’t joined The Kinks. In his characteristic wit, he replied, “No idea – but I’m certain that music would have always played a significant role. Or perhaps I would have pursued a career as a unicorn exterminator.”
