Kevin Spacey Trial Sees Elton John as a Key Witness

The ongoing trial of Kevin Spacey in London received a star-studded boost on Monday when none other than Elton John took the stand to testify. According to the AP, John was brought into the trial because one of Spacey’s accusers claims that the actor groped him while they were en route to the singer’s home for a party several years ago. John appeared in court via video link from Monaco, accompanied by his husband, David Furnish. The accuser stated that he was driving Spacey to John’s White Tie & Tiara Ball in either 2004 or 2005 when Spacey forcefully grabbed him, causing him to almost veer off the road.

However, Furnish supported Spacey’s testimony that he only attended the event in 2001. Furnish mentioned that he had reviewed photographs taken at the parties from 2001 to 2005 and noticed that Spacey was only present in images from 2001. He clarified that all guests were photographed each year. Furnish also recalled that Spacey’s appearance in 2001 was memorable because of his status as an Oscar-winning actor and the buzz and excitement surrounding his attendance at the ball. John also testified to remembering Spacey’s presence at the 2001 party, noting that he arrived in white tie and came straight to the ball, even traveling on a private jet.

John further confirmed that Spacey spent the night at their house after the event and disclosed that Spacey had purchased a Mini Cooper at the auction held that night for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. John added that Spacey never visited again. Although the alleged victim admitted he may have mixed up the year, he emphasized that he would never forget the incident because it took his breath away and nearly caused an accident. The timeline is crucial because the man testified that Spacey had assaulted him over several years starting in the early 2000s, with this incident being the last before he threatened to hit the actor and then avoided him.

Spacey, on the other hand, claimed that he and the accuser were friends and had engaged in some romantic contact. However, he respected the man’s wishes not to pursue further involvement due to his heterosexual orientation. Spacey expressed his devastation upon learning that the man had reported him to the police, asserting that the accuser had distorted their consensual interactions. Furnish, who was familiar with the accuser, described him as “charming,” echoing Spacey’s own description of him. Spacey, aged 63, has pleaded not guilty to a dozen charges, including sexual and indecent assault counts, as well as one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without their consent.
