Kentucky Football Coach Mark Stoops Confirms Commitment Amid Texas A&M Speculation

Mark Stoops, head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, put an end to rumors linking him to the head-coaching vacancy at Texas A&M. After celebrating a major upset victory over No. 10 Louisville, Stoops confirmed his decision to stay at Kentucky in a social media post early Sunday morning.

Stoops revealed that he was indeed contacted about a potential job opportunity, although he did not specifically mention Texas A&M in his post. He also mentioned to ESPN’s Chris Low that he had discussions with the Aggies, who have been searching for a new head coach since the departure of Jimbo Fisher two weeks ago.

Texas A&M (7-5, 4-4 SEC) completed its season under interim head coach Elijah Robinson, who is being considered for the permanent role. The Aggies suffered a defeat in their regular-season finale to No. 14 LSU.

Under Stoops’ leadership, Kentucky (7-5, 3-5 SEC) is set to appear in a bowl game for the eighth consecutive season, a new record for the university. The last time the team achieved at least eight straight winning seasons was from 1946 to 1956.

At 56 years old, Stoops holds the title of the winningest coach in Kentucky football history, boasting a career record of 73-64. He is currently under contract through the 2031 season.
