Kenny Pickett’s Knee Injury Adds to Steelers’ Loss – Breaking News

HOUSTON — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a knee injury during the team’s 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Following the game, Coach Mike Tomlin provided no further updates on Pickett’s condition, only stating that he was undergoing evaluation.

“It’s a tough blow,” said running back Jaylen Warren. “We have depth at the quarterback position, but it’s always difficult to see your starter go down like that. It’s part of the game, though.”

Pickett’s injury occurred when he was sacked while attempting a pass on a fourth-and-1 play. He twisted out of a collapsing pocket but was ultimately taken down by Houston’s Jonathan Greenard, who had come from the outside.

“I’m not exactly sure what happened,” said left tackle Broderick Jones. “I just remember him grabbing his knee, so I’m praying for him. Hopefully, it’s not too serious, and he can return soon.”

Following the sack, Pickett clutched his left knee in pain, requiring assistance from the medical staff. He was eventually taken to the medical tent and later ruled out with a knee injury.

Pickett’s injury occurred at a crucial moment for the Steelers, as they were starting to gain momentum in the second half. Prior to that, the team had been shut out in the first half and struggled offensively. Pickett’s stats for the game were 15 of 23 passes completed for 114 yards and one interception.

Backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky entered the game in place of Pickett. Trubisky, who joined the Steelers in the offseason, completed three of five attempts for 18 yards during his time on the field.

The Steelers also suffered injuries to tight end Pat Freiermuth and left tackle Dan Moore Jr. Freiermuth injured his hamstring, while Moore suffered a knee injury. Both players did not return to the game.

Following the loss, Coach Tomlin expressed the need for changes within the team.

“We definitely need to make some changes,” Tomlin said. “The performance today was unacceptable, and we can’t expect different results by doing the same things. We will develop a plan for the upcoming week.”
