Chicago White Sox General Manager Rick Hahn has been with the franchise since 2000. He has played a significant role in the team’s success, including winning the 2005 World Series and reaching the playoffs multiple times. The team owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, expressed his gratitude and respect for both Hahn and Executive Vice President Ken Williams, who have been a part of the White Sox family for many years. However, in a surprising turn of events, the team announced the firing of Williams and Hahn.

“This decision was incredibly difficult for me because Ken and Rick are both highly talented individuals who have contributed greatly to the White Sox,” Reinsdorf said in a news release. “Ken is like a son to me, and I will always consider him a part of my family. I want to personally thank both of them for their dedication and passion for the White Sox, which has led to our previous successes.”

Williams started his journey with the White Sox in 1992 as a scout and has held various positions within the organization before becoming the Executive Vice President. Hahn joined the team in 2000 and has also served as an assistant general manager. Their leadership played a crucial role in the team’s achievements, including the 2005 World Series victory and five playoff appearances. However, recent performance issues seemed to have led to this decision.

The White Sox have had a mixed performance in recent years, only making it to the playoffs three times in the last 17 seasons. After a strong 93-69 record in 2021, they experienced a setback with an 81-81 season in 2022. This year, they started poorly with a 7-21 record and currently sit at 49-77, 16 games behind the division-leading Minnesota Twins (65-61).

“We have acknowledged that we underachieved,” Williams admitted to MLB.com. “This is the consequence of such performance.”

Despite the management changes, the White Sox will continue their season and face the Seattle Mariners (71-55) in an upcoming game. They aim to break their recent slump, having lost five out of their last six games and overall struggling with a 2-8 record in their past 10 games.
