Keith Richards Expresses Disdain for Rap Music: ‘Unapologetically Critiquing a Genre that Yells Rather than Melodizes’

The Rolling Stones Guitarist Keith Richards Criticizes Pop Music and Hip-Hop

Keith Richards, the 79-year-old guitarist of The Rolling Stones, recently expressed his disdain for pop music and hip-hop. In an interview with The Telegraph, Richards described the pop music genre as “rubbish” and explained that it lacks depth and originality. While he appreciates various musical genres such as blues, jazz, and classical, he believes pop music falls short.

Richards went on to emphasize his preference for music performed on traditional instruments, as opposed to synthetic sounds produced by plastic synthesizers, which he compares to elevator music. He also dismisses rap, stating that he doesn’t enjoy being yelled at and doesn’t consider it to be real music.

During a press conference in Hackney, where the Rolling Stones announced their upcoming album “Hackney Diamonds,” the band paid tribute to their late drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021. Richards expressed the significance of Watts’s absence and the impact it has had on the band. However, he also acknowledged the contribution of their new drummer, Steve Jordan, who was recommended by Watts himself.

The album, set for release on October 20, will feature two tracks with Watts’s drumming and incorporates collaborations with renowned artists such as Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, and Stevie Wonder. Fans got a sneak peek of the music video for the band’s new single, “Angry,” starring Sidney Sweeney from the show Euphoria.

Despite his criticisms of certain genres, Keith Richards and The Rolling Stones continue to captivate audiences with their legendary music career and artistic contributions.
