Kawasaki Unveils the Revolutionary e-Boost Hybrid Streetbike – A Trailblazing Milestone!

Kawasaki has introduced the innovative Ninja 7 Hybrid streetbike, which successfully integrates both a combustion engine and a full electric powertrain. Surprisingly, the design manages to maintain an attractive appearance. The advantages of this hybrid model include improved fuel economy, electric boost, and various other impressive features.

The Ninja 7 Hybrid, a middleweight roadster with minimal fairing, was initially unveiled as a prototype in 2020. It is equipped with a newly developed 451cc parallel twin combustion engine capable of producing a decent 43.5 kW (58.3 hp) on its own. Positioned right behind the cylinder heads is a 9-kW (12-hp) electric motor that utilizes a 48-V lithium-ion battery located under the seat. When both the combustion engine and electric motor work together, the hybrid system can generate up to 51.1 kW (68.5 hp).

However, the peak power output is only available for a limited time to prevent overheating. Although the exact duration is not specified, it is likely to be shorter due to the motor’s proximity to the engine, which generates significant heat. Kawasaki’s previous electric bikes, the E-1 and Z E-1, had a 15-second time limit for peak power.

Nevertheless, Kawasaki claims that the Ninja 7 Hybrid delivers an impressive acceleration, similar to that of literbikes, thanks to the electric torque. In everyday usage, it offers the overall performance of a 650-700cc bike while maintaining the fuel efficiency of a 250cc model, which is certainly appealing.

There are three modes to choose from: sport-hybrid, eco-hybrid, and full-electric. Additionally, a “walk mode” is available to assist riders in maneuvering the bike in both forward and reverse directions. The combustion engine incorporates an auto stop/start system to conserve fuel.

The Ninja 7 Hybrid features an intriguing gearbox design. While it does not require a clutch lever, Kawasaki states that it offers both manual and automatically selected gears. Furthermore, it incorporates an “Automatic Launch Position Finder” system that ensures the bike is always in first gear when coming to a stop.
