Kate Middleton’s Thoughtful Gesture: Royalty Ditches Shoes for Radio Host’s Family

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, demonstrated her down-to-earth nature by removing her shoes when visiting radio host Roman Kemp’s parents’ home. Kemp shared the unique experience of receiving a call from the royal and organizing a meeting for a short video on the topic of depression and suicide in young men. To ensure a more spacious setting, Kemp suggested they shoot the video at his parents’ larger house instead of his flat in Vauxhall.

During the visit, Middleton, Kemp, and his parents sat at the kitchen counter, surrounded by their dogs. Kemp found it amusing and memorable that Middleton had taken off her shoes as a sign of respect upon entering the house. It is not often that one sees royalty without shoes on.

This is not the first time Middleton has opted to go shoeless. In 2016, she removed her shoes while visiting the Gandhi Smiriti museum in India and again in 2019 when she visited a mosque in Pakistan.

The video shoot at Kemp’s parents’ house was part of Middleton’s Shaping Us campaign, which aims to create awareness about youth mental health. She highlighted the importance of talking openly about mental health and understanding ways to take care of it. This initiative was particularly significant because men are less likely to discuss their mental health and seek support compared to physical health concerns.

Meghan Markle, in her Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” also revealed that she had encountered the formality of Prince William and Kate Middleton when they first visited her home. Markle herself had taken off her shoes during an official visit to New Zealand in 2018. She described her surprise at the reserved nature of the Prince and Princess of Wales when they were introduced, as Markle was barefoot at the time.

Both Middleton and Markle demonstrate a relatable and human side by embracing casual and comfortable interactions with others, even in the midst of their royal duties.
