Kansas City Police Report One Fatality in North Hyde Park Shooting on Monday Night

Kansas City police are conducting a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting in the North Hyde Park neighborhood on Monday night.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 block of East Armour Boulevard, a few blocks west of Troost Avenue, in response to reports of gunshots. Captain Corey Carlisle, spokesperson for the department, provided this information.

Upon arrival, responding officers observed a vehicle leaving the scene of the shooting, which was headed towards the hospital. There, the police made contact with the gunshot victim, whose identity remains unknown as of Monday night. The victim succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the hospital.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and the police do not currently have a person of interest in custody. In efforts to determine the events leading up to the shooting, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are gathering evidence, searching for witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage in the area.

This incident is the 161st homicide in Kansas City in 2023, according to data maintained by The Star. During the same period in 2022, the city had recorded 150 homicides.
