Last month, Riverside County maintained a steady unemployment rate of 5%, as reported by the California Employment Development Department on Friday.
Based on preliminary estimates from the EDD, the countywide jobless rate in July remained unchanged from June’s 5%.
Compared to the previous year, the July rate was almost 1% higher, with countywide unemployment at 4.2%.
The EDD recorded approximately 56,900 unemployed county residents last month, while 1,085,700 individuals were employed.
Between June and July, total nonfarm employment in Riverside and San Bernardino County dropped by 9,400 positions. Additionally, agricultural employment decreased by 1,800.
Bi-county data indicates that the government sector experienced the largest loss, shedding 12,900 jobs, of which 12,700 were in local government, according to the EDD.
Other sectors such as financial activities, real estate and rental and leasing, finance and insurance, professional and business services, and private education and health services collectively lost 2,400 jobs, as shown by the data.
The construction sector, on the other hand, saw an increase of 3,100 positions, while civil engineering construction remained unchanged according to officials.
Data reveals that the statewide non-seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in July was 4.6%.
