The Issue: President Biden’s Effort to Cancel $39 Billion in Student Loan Debt for 800,000 Borrowers

In an attempt to appease the left wing of his party and gain support, President Biden is seeking to cancel billions of dollars in student loan debt. However, this action goes against the Supreme Court’s ruling that he lacks the authority to do so (“Treating court with contempt,” Editorial, July 18).

This cancellation not only has the potential to fuel inflation but also shifts the burden of debt from middle-class borrowers to working-class Americans who did not attend college.

Why should individuals who work as bartenders or waitresses have to repay the law school debt of others? Why should someone who served in the military be responsible for paying off the college debt of someone who did not serve?

This debt transfer appears to be nothing more than a blatant attempt to secure votes.

Both my son and I have paid off our student loans, and I have no desire to repay Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s student loans.

President Biden’s attempt to bypass the Supreme Court’s decision regarding student loan forgiveness is characteristic of his sly nature.

How can a sitting president disregard a Supreme Court ruling?

Why aren’t the American people, especially those who did not vote for him, outraged by this?

How many additional part-time jobs will I have to take on to contribute to these giveaways?

I took out a college loan in 1973. Is there any possibility of receiving a refund or repayment? I highly doubt it.

If former President Donald Trump had attempted the same action, the Democrats would have vehemently opposed him.

Former President Barack Obama was correct when he reportedly warned: “Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f-ck things up.” He continues to do so. Absolutely appalling.

There is no forgiveness or cancellation, only a transfer of debt from one person to another.

So why do people keep referring to it as “forgiveness” and “cancellation”?

President Biden has shown disrespect to the Supreme Court justices who deemed his proclamation to forgive tuition costs for millions of students unconstitutional.

Decisions of this magnitude, which affect millions of borrowers, should be made by Congress, not unilaterally by the president. This aligns with a fair and accurate interpretation of the Constitution.

No sooner had the court made its ruling than Biden introduced a new plan to forgive billions in tuition obligations, bypassing the court’s decision.

This new order is just as flawed as the previous one and is likely to be declared unconstitutional as well.

America is left with a president whose mental faculties are diminishing and who may continuously attempt such actions until restrained. It resembles training a dog that defecates in every corner of a house.

It is unfair that taxpayers will bear the burden of President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program.

Those of us who diligently repaid our loans will now be responsible for paying off the loans of others through our taxes. In that case, all individuals who have repaid their loans should receive reimbursement.

President Biden’s disregard for the Supreme Court’s decision in this matter is concerning.

This situation is reminiscent of reparations programs that require taxpayers to pay for something they were not involved in. When will it end?

Has America devolved into a banana republic? President Biden, now acting as a dictator, shows no fear of consequences or accountability.

He has placed himself above the law.

His $36 billion student debt relief demonstrates contempt for Congress, the Supreme Court, and the American people.

We need our elected officials and the media to condemn such lawlessness. Or are they part of the problem?
