The Scourge of Tranq

I completely agree with the sentiments expressed in the July 12 editorial titled “Stop Normalizing Tranq” which criticizes the misguided ad campaign by the New York City Department of Health. This campaign is aimed at normalizing the deadly drug xylazine, commonly known as “tranq,” which is used for treating animals in veterinary medicine.

Tranq is being unknowingly sold to users in most cases, mixed with heroin and fentanyl. This toxic combination leads to fatal overdoses as well as the development of rotting body sores and ulcers. Unfortunately, the drug agonist naloxone, which is effectively used to prevent overdose deaths, does not work with tranq since it is not an opioid. Moreover, routine toxicology screenings do not detect tranq.

I support the harm-reduction model as a temporary measure to bridge the gap towards approved treatment programs that offer legitimate medications for opioid addiction, like methadone or buprenorphine.

In conclusion, it is crucial to emphasize that tranq should not be consumed by humans, and it is absurd for harm-reduction centers in the city to assist users in any way to ingest or inject this poisonous substance.

LaBella’s Ego

Vito LaBella’s refusal to withdraw from the City Council race demonstrates an entitled mindset that sustains the division of votes and perpetuates the ineffectiveness of the New York Conservative Party. LaBella’s ego-driven decision aligns with the equally hopeless Conservative Party, ignoring the wise words of William F. Buckley, an early conservative leader, who advocated voting for the most right, viable candidate who could win. Ying Tan exemplifies this candidate, not LaBella.

The Conservative Party in New York is on the path to irrelevance, just like the Liberal Party of New York. Instead of embracing Ying Tan, the Conservative Party is sending the message that Asians are not welcome. This is one of the reasons why Democrats dominate the city and state.

Sanctuary Chaos

Mayor Adams has inherited the chaotic state of New York City caused by the disastrous administration of Mayor Bill de Blasio. To address the issue, a simple statement needs to be made: “We are no longer a sanctuary city.”

Some people are unaware of the negative impact of the influx of migrants on our city. The question arises: Where is the funding coming from to support these individuals? How are we affording $7.9 million per day?

That money could be better used to combat crime, improve schools, provide housing for the elderly and the homeless, and support hardworking, tax-paying citizens who reside in the city. If our mayor and governor don’t stand up for the citizens, further cuts to city services will continue. Do they have the courage to act?

This issue is not the fault of the migrants. It starts from the top, with President Biden and others in power. There needs to be someone who speaks out and puts a stop to this.

Supporting Cluster Munitions

President Biden’s decision to send cluster munitions to Ukraine is the right move. It should have been done a year ago. The Russians have been using these munitions on populated areas since the beginning of the invasion, while Ukraine only intends to use them on the battlefield.

Complaints from rights groups should be disregarded completely, as they have been silent about Russia’s use of cluster munitions. Kudos to Biden for taking this action.
