OAKLAND, Calif. — Josh Donaldson found his name back in the Yankees lineup on Tuesday after being benched for three games.
However, the question remains as to how long Donaldson will remain in the lineup as the struggling veteran continues to underperform halfway through the season.
Donaldson made a return with a bang, hitting a solo home run in his second at-bat, but struck out looking in his final two plate appearances in the Yankees’ 2-1 loss to the Athletics at Oakland Coliseum.
“For the most part, I’ve felt pretty good at the plate since I’ve been back,” said Donaldson. “I had a few days last week where I felt a little off, but I’ve worked on it and overall, I feel good with my approach.”
The 423-foot home run off right-hander Paul Blackburn was Donaldson’s seventh of the season, but he only has nine hits so far. He finished the night with a .132 batting average and a .641 OPS in 22 games.
